On January 10, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism held the 2025 Shanxi Province "Intangible Cultural Heritage Celebrating the New Year" promotion event in Pingyao Ancient City. The event released the "Shanxi Spring Festival Folk Customs Intangible Cultural Heritage Atlas". The atlas is divided into four regions according to cultural geography: northern Shanxi, central Shanxi, southern Shanxi, and southeastern Shanxi. A total of 179 representative Spring Festival intangible cultural heritage projects above the provincial level in the province are displayed to the public, including 30 in northern Shanxi, 76 in central Shanxi, 37 in southern Shanxi, and 36 in southeastern Shanxi.
The event also launched hundreds of "Shanxi Intangible Cultural Heritage Celebrating the New Year" series of activities, covering 11 municipal cultural and sports venues and festival spaces, "day + night" full time, "tradition + fashion" full connection,Â
"benefit the people + bring happiness to the people" full integration, creating a strong New Year festive atmosphere.
It is reported that the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism will hold the "New Year Comes from All Things - Spring Festival Intangible Cultural Heritage Art Exhibition" at the Taiyuan Art Museum during the Spring Festival, using a new and fashionable way of expression and woodblock New Year paintings as a carrier to present an immersive Spring Festival experience space.
In 2025, various Spring Festival activities in Shanxi will be splendid and festive. The folk activities during the New Year festival include the "Pingyao Chinese New Year" held in the ancient city of Pingyao, Jinzhong, the fourth folk activity of "The Fortress Has the Flavor of the New Year, Return to the Village to Celebrate the New Year" in Liujiabao, Taiyuan, and the Spring Festival theme activity of "Chinese New Year in Xinzhou". The social fire performance activities include the horse racing social fire held in Niangziguan Town, Pingding, Yangquan, the Lantern Festival art performance held in Wuxiang, Changzhi, and the social fire performance of Xiyang Characteristic Folk Custom Street in Jinzhong. The lantern exhibitions include the Datong Ancient City Lantern Festival, the Taiyuan Ancient County Flower Viewing Lantern Festival, and the "Changzi Lantern Shines in Dancheng, Changzi Rejuvenates" Lantern Exhibition. Folk music exhibitions include the Xinzhou Ancient City playing the eight sets of northern Shanxi drums and blows, the traditional folk wind and percussion music competition in Qinshui County, Jincheng, and the "Eight Sounds of Spring" folk wind art performance in Shuocheng District, Shuozhou. Temple fairs and market activities include the Snake Year Temple Fair in Dayang Ancient Town, Jincheng, the immersive intangible cultural heritage market of Northern Wei costumes in Datong Ancient City, and the temple fair with folk performances in Yunqiu Mountain Scenic Area in Linfen. New Year food tasting activities include steamed flower buns and fried twists in the cellar courtyard of Pinglu, Yuncheng, the New Year bun exhibition in Wenxi, the intangible cultural heritage snack exhibitions in Hongdong and Xiangning, Linfen, and the construction of an intangible cultural heritage food gallery in the Sanhuang Temple Scenic Area in Xiaoyi, Luliang.
